Estimating Phenotypic Traits Faster
Fast phenotyping for eventual resistance to climate change.
The FastPheno project is based at the Ensminger lab at the University of Toronto Mississauga. Our lab research involves implementing drone-based high-throughput phenotyping tools to expand genomic selection for adaptation. Our ultimate mission is to produce trees resilient to future climate in Canada.
Our Mission
The goal of the FastPheno project is to implement drone-based phenotyping technology to benefit tree breeding and further Canada’s forestry sector. This will be done using the implementation of a drone platform with hyperspectral (HSL) and LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors and processing.
Our Activities
-
Assessing Adaptive Traits including Phenology and Growth
Evaluating adaptive traits using a high-throughput HSL and LiDAR drone-based system.
-
Assessing Adaptive Traits in Contrasting Environments
Evaluating these adaptive traits in different environments using the drone-based system.
-
Data Processing
HSL data pipeline and processing
-
Spruce Database
Developing a spruce database with genotypes.
